  • Altar'd State is a fashion boutique in the United States that offers a distinctive shopping experience for women interested in the latest fashion finds, the most anticipated accessories and that next great gift. Altar'd State customers can enjoy supporting an organization that promotes confidence, civic involvement and positivity through its merchandise and philosophy of giving back. They currently have 59 locations sprinkled throughout the South and Midwest.

  • Altar’d State needed to better reflect their branding and in-store experience with their online presence to better connect with their target audience of 24-30 year olds. They also wanted to elevate the overall online experience by incorporating new & exciting ways for users to engage with the brand. The same redesign for the website would also need to be applied to their app, which was being severely under utilized by shoppers.

  • For this pitch, we aligned their in-store experience with their digital presence and overall branding. We translated their retail stores aesthetic onto their website by bringing in their signature lush greenery through photography and illustration treatments and a warmer, more organic color palette. As part of this we also updated their brand fonts. Their photography styling was not consistent, so we proposed a more down-to-earth yet sophisticated look and feel that would resonate better with their target audience of women between the ages of 24-30.

Outside of visuals, we proposed a more simplified organization of content with targeted sections of engagement for ecommerce and brand content. For ecommerce we added reviews for transparency, reorganized the flow of content, added a “Complete the Look” section to build a full outfit, added “How Others Are Styling It” to pull in tagged posts from social media, and a “We Think You’ll Love” section at the bottom to drive users to similar products. We also proposed a personal wardrobe coordinator AI experience which would elevate product discovery through styling recommendations tailored to the user.

*All photography used is for conceptual and illustrative purposes only.

Altar’d State is known for having beautiful stores and subtlety mixing fashion and faith. Their stores incorporate the use of lush greenery, arched windows and doors, hand-drawn wall treatments and glass wall installations reminiscent of stained glass elements you would normally see in a church.

We elevated some of their branding elements to better match the aesthetic of their stores which is down to earth yet glam, whimsical and ultra-feminine. We applied new typography, visuals and colors and we toned down the use of illustrations and patterns they currently use.

For ecommerce we reorganized the flow of content and added in several new areas such as product reviews for transparency, a “Complete the Look” section to build a full outfit, “How Others Are Styling It” to pull in tagged posts from social media, and a “We Think You’ll Love” section at the bottom to drive users to similar products.

The Butterfly Insider app was being severely under-utilized and the functionality was lacking. The updated app we proposed will ease the process for customers taking part in their rewards program. With this design, they can simply scan the app when purchasing in-store and be able to view their rewards progress and appl-only offers, etc.

We provided interesting ways for users to interact with the brand, including a personal wadrobe AI experience. Shoppers could discover new products through styling recommednations tailored specifically for them. A multi-step experience with a “Siri-esque” styling assistant pairs users with the perfect looks and products for their upcoming event/trip/occasion based on their input. This would provide richer personalization to the user experience and enhance product discovery.

We understand that Altar’d State is more than a store but an organization that’s on a mission to make a positive change in the world. We created the “State of Impact” Story Hub to shine a light on the positive impact that’s happening. Users can share their stories (through submissions) and read others’ inspirational stories of how Altar’d State is impacting people, missions, communities and organizations. This area of the site will raise awareness & advocacy to these missions. Also, users can look at the latest facts & figures on how Altar’d State is indeed making an impact.
